As many of you know, we are "between storefronts" right now, and are working on doing some pop-ups this season in and around Highlands. We have come to affectionately call this our "Gypsy Retail" approach, which is of course a tongue-in-cheek reference to their nomadic way of life, not indicating that we can tell you your future. Although, for the right price! However, we've had people ask about the meaning of a pop-up store, and how that works. Thus, the purpose of this post.
According to Wikipedia: Pop-up retail, also known as pop-up store (pop-up shop in the UK, Australia and Ireland) or flash retailing, is a trend of opening short-term sales spaces that started in Los Angeles and now pop up all over the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, France, Germany, the UK and Australia. The pop-up industry is now estimated to be a $50 billion industry!
This is actually how we started out. Way back in 2016, we did several smaller shows and events, and then had an extended pop-up on the hill next to Highlands Gem Shop. This was to test the waters before searching for something a little more permanent. Some have said that we had the first pop-up that Highlands had ever seen. Not sure how accurate that is, but it's cool to think about! The series of pop-ups that we hope to do this year will be smaller in scope and duration, and will mostly be held in other establishments. This should not only give us the opportunity to expand our customer base, but will give us the opportunity to give other businesses some exposure too. Our goal is to promote our business, and that of our hosts so that other companies will find it worthwhile to collaborate with us.
Our first event is planned for April 21, so be sure to check it out on Facebook. While you're there, like and follow us so that you don't miss any future events.
We look forward to bringing you some fun and interesting events over the next several months, and hope that you enjoy them as much as we will.
